Paris on
Bastille day, makes you appreciate the blue, white and red
since I was abroad on the 4th of July,
the fireworks off of the Eiffle Tower were a nice substitute.
I found
it exceptionally entertaining to watch as houndreds of tourists crowded in
front of the Mona Lisa to capture a picture (usually without even looking
through the view finder) because they were under the impression that it'd
be better if they took it themselves, to prove they were there and enjoyed
it. Of course, they ignored the other DaVinci paintings in the museum since
Rick Steeves doesnt tell them to look at those.
I stood and sketched in the center of this massive room as dozens of people
bumped into me. It was as if all rules of courtesy are out the window - keep
your eyes on the prize!
Lots of people (artists) get frustrated by this mentality.
I found it really funny -my favorite part of the Louvre actually.
... also,
I can't understand why people would want a picture of themselves in front
of every possible thing they come across. Won't their friends and family believe
them, that they were actually there?!
I saw one Japanese guy get his picture taken standing by the men's room! I'm
not really sure why.
It reminds me of pith helmets and rifles -going on a safari and capturing
images standing with your trophy (although, I admit I saw very few tourists
with handlebar mustaches).
