Montgomery Cheddar Wedge, original artwork by Mike Geno

From the Cheese Portraits series.

My second portrait of one of my favorite cheddars, this one is one of the highest regarded traditional, handmade, unpastueurised cheddars and it's made by James Montgomery, in Somerset, England. I am excited about revisiting this cheese as I have been invited to participate in the Cheese Journeys,
"Cheddar Odyssey" tour this spring ( Cheesejourneys.com ) and I will get to have a mini exhibition at at Jamie Montgomery's childhood home ( North Cadbury Court!) and I will be able to meet him!

This particular wedge is from a wheel that is less affected by cave aging blues that sometimes get in there but it was no less delicious. Some of the best cheddars in the world are made in Somerset and I'll be eating all of them there and with the cheesemakers! So, not only does my work include painting (and eating) some of the best cheeses, but also I get to make new friends that make the cheese. Life is good, which seems really appropriate as a statement to add to any conversation that Montgomery cheddar is involved.
