Rye
oil on wood, 16 x 16"
From the Bread series.
Now that my new studio is only a couple blocks from Lost Bread Company, I thought I'd stop on my way to pic up something pretty. I had an itch to paint some beautiful bread.. And, there's never a shortage of beautiful models at Lost Bread co., on Howard Street.
This one caught my eye. It was simply labeled "rye". I have no other info about it but I can attest to it's beauty and it is incredibly delicious. I wanted to delve into that beautiful crust as much as I wanted to paint all those alveoli; the name for the holes in the crumb that are actually air pockets that are formed during mixing and they expand during fermentation and baking.
