STAB Sandwich
oil on wood, 8x10"
From the Chef Plates series.
Being an artist allows me to meet a lot of other artists, naturally. Likewise, being an artist that paints food, I get to meet a lot of great people that make food. Today on my way to the studio, still undecided on my subject for painting, I stopped for a breakfast sandwich, and was greeted by Terrence Laragione, who owns Buzz Cafe in Kensington, near fishtown. Terrence is also a really talented painter. Buzz is not only great for coffee and killer-good breakfast sandwiches, but it's also Terrence's studio. If you're in the area, you should stop by and view his work displayed throughout the two-story Rowhome turned into a fun and cozy cafe. And, if you're lucky, you might even catch Terrence painting among them.
He offered me a delicious model in addition to my order today and it was a true gift since I still did not know what I was going to find for the day's painting and his take on a "BLT" was a lot of fun.
Regular patrons know this sandwich as the STAB ; spinach, tomato, aioli and bacon, on a croissant.
